playing with the borders

Barely 20 minutes with the tram no 10 from Basel City, we discover a dense forest followed by wide open spaces. The area is well known for its impressive cliffs, which are offering breath-taking views and are appreciated by climbers. Further on, we we leave behind us these open landscapes and cross the green gorge of Chälengraben, that gives us the impression of being in a tropical forest. After this refreshing and exotic experience, we walk up to the Blauenpass (820 m). The landscape is a succession of open fields and forests; it offers views towards France and the south of Switzerland. After reaching the Remelspitz oder Rämelspitze (830 m - the highest point of the day) we play cat and mouse with the French border and walk past old boundary stones engraved with the letters F and S. We then continue our walk until Rodersdorf, where a tram is waiting to take us back into the city.
